Cloud rat 1

Female at the Cincinnati Zoo in Jungle Trails.

Though the slender-tailed cloud rat or the Northern Luzon giant cloud rat (Phloeomys pallidus) may be found in a variety of habitats, it likely prefers forest. Large, wide feet and large foreclaws enable the solitary and slow-moving creature to navigate along tree branches. It forages at night for leaves, fruits and roots. Its distinct musky odor is thought to ward off predators.
